BCIT BRINGS TOGETHER LEADERS IN REAL ESTATE AND DEVELOPMENT TO ANNOUNCE NAME FOR NEW TRADES AND TECHNOLOGY CENTRE
On Thursday July 21, British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT) and real estate development leader David Podmore, OBC, will announce a transformational donation to BCIT and unveil the name of its new building dedicated to trades, engineering and technology on the BCIT Burnaby campus.
This announcement is part of BCIT’s successful INSPIRE Campaign which saw government, industry partners, alumni, and donor support to raise over $100 million to date. This will bolster the future of applied education by constructing a new Trades & Technology Complex at BCIT comprising nine new or renewed buildings. The Trades & Technology Centre will anchor the Complex, providing a world-class technology-enabled living lab for applied learning, research, and industry collaboration designed to advance skilled trades, construction, engineering, and sustainability. The Centre will build capacity for new full-time students, alleviating waitlists and providing a much-needed pool of well-trained labour to the provincial trades sectors.
The Trades & Technology Complex will in itself be a major economic stimulus. The various projects will employ a wide range of construction trades and specialists in the design, project management, and technology sectors. The project’s capital value of $220 million is estimated to generate between 950 and 1,175 direct jobs with an equivalent number of indirect jobs.
Media are invited to attend the announcement and connect with leadership from BCIT on how this new Centre will advance the future of trades training and further support meeting the skilled trades labour needs across the province.
