Mural dedicated to the northern lights and its connection to the people of the north
On September 17, 2022, Indigenous artist Melanie Jewell, award-winning fiddler and composer Wesley Hardisty, as well as tourism and Indigenous leaders will unveil the city’s newest mural located in the heart of Mt Pleasant on Main Street.
The 1,000 square foot piece is entitled “My Journey Home,” and shows the northern lights through an Indigenous lens. The piece represents the connection people of the north have with the northern lights. The piece was created in partnership with Northwest Territories Tourism (NWTT), Destination Indigenous and Northwest Territories (NWT) Arts.
The public are invited to attend the outdoor event which will include Blessings by Spakwus Slolem (Eagle Song Dancers), and music by Wesley Hardisty.
Media are invited to see the unveiling of the mural, connect with multimedia artist Melanie Jewell and participate in the lively launch event.
