During a time when many frontline grocery store employees feel burnt out, Accent Inns Inc. is providing store workers with free future vacations because rest is essential and so are they.
As a response to recent news coverage of widespread exhaustion due to staff shortages and overtime hours in B.C. grocery stores, Accent Inns Inc. employees reached out to local grocery stores this week to offer vacation vouchers to their cousin company, Hotel Zed, which has locations in Tofino, Victoria and Kelowna.
“If this pandemic has taught us anything, it’s that rest is essential. Frontline grocery store workers face a huge risk every time there is an infection surge,” said Mandy Farmer, CEO of Accent Inns and Hotel Zed. “After almost two years of living in the pandemic, these workers deserve our understanding and recognition more than ever. We want to thank these individuals and let them know that we would love to host them for some rest and relaxation.”
“This definitely made some of the staff members’ days,” said Steve Fremmerlid, the owner of FreshCo in Kamloops. “It was an incredibly kind gesture and the recognition of what we’ve had to work through since opening almost two years ago went a long way.”
Accent Inns Inc. has worked to support frontline workers since the onset of the pandemic by continuing to do good within their local communities.
In March 2020, the company launched a ‘Hotels for Frontline Workers’ fund with United Way of Southern Vancouver Island, enabling B.C.’s essential workers to isolate themselves in an Accent Inns hotel room safely without worrying about bringing the virus home to their families.
On Transit Driver Appreciation Day in 2021, Accent Inns employees went out into their communities to hand out gift cards to local bus drivers on their routes to show their appreciation for all their work during the pandemic.
Lastly, in recognition of B.C.’s educators and their efforts during the pandemic, Accent Inns Inc. provided complimentary hotel stays to one teacher and their entire faculty to celebrate Teacher Appreciation Day.
