This Community Initiative Helps Provide Gifts and Holiday Cheer for Seniors Across Western Canada
Starting Saturday, November 12 through Thursday, December 8 London Drugs invites customers to help lift the spirits of seniors over the holidays with the return of Stocking Stuffers for Seniors. This holiday donation program is available at 78 participating locations across Western Canada.
London Drugs has been supporting seniors over the holidays for more than 20 years, but Stocking Stuffers for Seniors officially began in 2015, and has since helped over 60,000 seniors. Over the years, London Drugs employees have heard many touching stories from families that have participated in the program. From customers that have chosen tags which remind them of loved ones that have passed, to families or businesses taking part as a holiday tradition, many see the program as a way to give back to the community during the season of giving.
“Stocking Stuffers for Seniors has become an annual tradition that our customers and staff look forward to year after year. It is so heartwarming to see the enthusiasm that each community brings to this program to ensure their local seniors feel supported and celebrated during the holiday season,” says London Drugs president and COO, Clint Mahlman. “This campaign truly proves the sense of togetherness and support that this time of year brings to those who need it most.”
To support Stocking Stuffers for Seniors, customers can visit any participating London Drugs location and pick a tag from the Stocking Stuffers for Seniors Christmas tree, with a senior’s gift wish. They can then purchase the item on the tag and bring it back to the same location. The gifts are then delivered to seniors ahead of the holidays.
There is a wide array of gifts that are requested by the seniors and care facilities, including necessities such as toiletries and clothing garments. Popular gifts for seniors this year include:
- Toiletries: no scent shampoo and conditioner, body wash, body cream, toothpaste, and toothbrush, make up and nail care
- Treats: small boxes of chocolates, candy, cookies, diabetic treats/gluten-free treats
- Jigsaw puzzles or large print puzzle books
- Blankets
- Gloves, mittens, scarf
- Slippers, socks, underwear
New this year, London Drugs has partnered with Carlton Cards to provide customers with an in-store coupon for a free card or their senior when purchasing a Carlton Card or Papyrus Card this holiday season. In addition, members of the London Drugs loyalty program, LDExtras will receive a reward of 500 bonus points when they bring their gift for a senior to the store, as a thank you for participating in the program.
